rhoni mackenzie photoA child of divorce, Rhoni has an intimate understanding of the stress and trauma families often experience during the separation process. Rhoni adopts a child-centered and trauma informed approach with the goal of helping clients resolve their legal issues without costly litigation and in a way that promotes healthy families post-separation.

Rhoni was called to the bar in 2018 and has been practicing family law exclusively since. Prior to joining Evans Family Law, Rhoni articled and practiced at a large Winnipeg firm, gaining experience in a wide variety of dispute resolution methods, including litigation, arbitration, collaborative law, and other cooperative approaches. Rhoni was thrilled to join the Evans team given its reputation as a leader in family law dispute resolution.

Rhoni also specializes in fertility law, having assisted a variety of clients – intended parents, surrogates, and donors. Her services in this area include negotiating and drafting surrogacy, and sperm, egg, and embryo agreements, obtaining declarations of parentage, and representing clients with respect to embryo custody disputes.

Rhoni’s commitment to advancing the legal rights of individuals seeking to form families extended to a successful challenge to update Manitoba laws regarding legal parentage. Rhoni formed part of the legal team awarded the 2022 Manitoba Bar Association’s Pro Bono Award in relation to their work on this very important case.

Rhoni recognizes that each family unit is unique and not all families are formed in the same way. With her specialization in fertility law and experience with adoptions and guardianships, Rhoni hopes to help families navigate the legal issues which arise when building a family, whatever the family may look like, and however that family was formed.

Rhoni is on the Executive of the Manitoba Bar Association Women Lawyers Section and has volunteered at the Legal Help Centre and as a mentor through the Manitoba Bar Association and Manitoba Law Student Association Mentorship Program since her call to the bar. She also sits on the Board of Directors for the Aulneau Renewal Centre.

Outside of the office, Rhoni can often be found with music on, hiking or walking with her two dogs, reading, watching the Toronto Raptors or the latest bingeworthy TV series, or playing crib or Catans.
